Your cards are yours. PocketCards scans, reads and stores them locally on your iPhone without sending their contents to me.

Overview

PocketCards does not require an account and does not use advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs. I do not operate a server that receives your business-card images or extracted contact details.

This policy explains how PocketCards handles information when you scan, import, save, search, export, back up, restore or delete a business card.

What stays on your device

PocketCards can store business-card images, OCR text, names, companies, job titles, phone numbers, email addresses, websites, postal addresses, notes and tags that you choose to save. This information is stored locally in the app's private container on your iPhone. A copy leaves the app only when you choose to export, share, back up or add a card to Contacts, as described below.

Text recognition is performed on-device using Apple Vision. PocketCards does not transmit scanned images or extracted card information to Kun Qian or to a server operated on my behalf.

PocketCards does not create a user profile, track you across apps or websites, or sell personal information.

Device permissions

Camera

Used to photograph and scan business cards when you choose the camera option.

Photos

Used to import only the images you select from your photo library.

Contacts

Used only when you ask PocketCards to add a saved card to Apple Contacts. PocketCards does not upload or independently collect your address book.

You can change these permissions at any time in iOS Settings. Some related features will not work when their permission is disabled.

Exports and third-party destinations

When you deliberately export a vCard, save or send a backup, use the iOS share sheet, add a card to Contacts, call a number, send an email, open a map or visit a website, information is passed to the app or service you choose. Those destinations operate under their own terms and privacy policies.

A vCard export contains contact text only, without scan images. A backup also includes scan images; see Backups.

PocketCards does not automatically share card data with those services.

Backups

Starting with PocketCards 1.1, Settings → Back up all cards creates one backup file (an Apple Archive, .aar) on your iPhone. It contains every saved card: names, companies, job titles, contact details, notes, tags, recognized text, and the front and back scan images and thumbnails.

PocketCards hands the file to the iOS share sheet, and you decide where it goes, such as Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, email or another app. PocketCards never uploads the backup and I never receive it. Once you save it to a third-party service such as iCloud Drive, that service's own terms apply.

Backup files are not encrypted or password-protected. Anyone who has the file can read the cards and images inside it, so store it somewhere you trust.

Settings → Restore from backup lets you pick a backup file in Files. PocketCards reads it on your iPhone and adds its cards to your library without deleting the cards you already have.

Deleting PocketCards does not delete backup files you saved elsewhere. To remove a backup, delete the file wherever you saved or sent it.

Retention and your control

Saved information remains on your device until you delete individual cards or remove the app. Deleting PocketCards removes data stored in its app container, subject to the behavior of your device backups.

Copies you previously exported, backed up, shared or added to another app must be managed in that destination. PocketCards does not provide an account, cloud sync or a hosted backup service; backup files are stored only where you put them.

Policy changes

I may update this policy when PocketCards changes or when legal requirements evolve. The effective date at the top of this page shows when the policy was last revised. Material changes will be reflected here before the related app update is released.
