Getting started
- Tap Scan a card to use the iPhone camera, or choose a business-card image from Photos.
- Review the detected fields, especially any item marked as uncertain.
- Edit anything that needs correction, then save the card to your library.
- Open a saved card to call, email, visit its website, add it to Contacts or export a vCard.
The document camera requires a physical iPhone. Camera scanning is not available in the iOS Simulator.
Managing permissions
Open iOS Settings → PocketCards, or Settings → Apps → PocketCards on newer iOS versions, to review access.
Camera is unavailable
Enable Camera access, return to PocketCards and try scanning again.
Photos cannot be imported
Allow Photos access when prompted. PocketCards works only with images you select.
A card cannot be added to Contacts
Enable Contacts access. PocketCards requests this only when you choose to add a card.
Improving scan accuracy
- Place the card on a plain, contrasting background.
- Use even light and avoid glare or deep shadows.
- Keep the whole card inside the camera frame and hold the iPhone steady.
- Review Thai and English text before saving, particularly stylized names, extensions and small print.
OCR is performed on-device. Results can be imperfect, so PocketCards is designed to let you review and edit every field.
Data, backups and export
Cards, OCR text and saved images are stored in PocketCards on your iPhone. There is no account, server sync or PocketCards cloud backup. Copies leave the app only when you export, back up or share them.
Back up all cards
Use Settings → Back up all cards to create one backup file (.aar) containing every card, including its scan images. Choose where to save or send it from the share sheet, such as Files, iCloud Drive or AirDrop. PocketCards never uploads the file.
Backup files are not encrypted or password-protected. Anyone with the file can read your cards, so keep it somewhere you trust.
Restore from a backup
Use Settings → Restore from backup and pick the file in Files. Its cards are added to your library; existing cards are not deleted.
Moving cards to a new iPhone
- On your old iPhone, tap Settings → Back up all cards.
- AirDrop the file to your new iPhone, or save it to Files or iCloud Drive.
- On your new iPhone, install PocketCards, tap Settings → Restore from backup and pick the file.
Export as vCard
Use Settings → Export all cards to create a vCard file containing saved contact fields for other contacts apps. Scanned images are not included in the vCard; use a backup to keep them.
Deleting data
Delete an individual card from the library when you no longer need it. Removing the app deletes information held in its app container, subject to the behavior of your device backups. Backup files you saved elsewhere stay there until you delete them.
For the complete explanation, read the PocketCards Privacy Policy.
Troubleshooting
The app behaves unexpectedly
- Close and reopen PocketCards.
- Confirm that your iPhone is running the latest available iOS update.
- Check that sufficient device storage is available.
- If a particular scan fails, try taking the photo again in brighter, more even light.
Before reinstalling
Back up your cards first and save the file outside the app. Reinstalling the app can remove its locally stored cards and images; use Restore from backup afterwards to bring them back.
